For that matter, the taste of fresh coffee
Finding sweet home accessories for low prices, particularly at yard sales/Goodwill

Doing funny things for N to imitate
Wind chimes
Good food
Finishing projects
Brushing my hair
Long baths
Hot showers

Whaddaya Think?

Here are my cakes!

Not perfect, but not terrible either.

Today, we are headed to Mass and N is in his homemade sweater vest. Then, we go to a birthday party, for which I made the cakes! I'm feeling just a tad creative right now, so you'll have to forgive me for tooting my horn! :)

Poetry Found

Wanted to share this wonderful poem I found today at this blog...

Taking Life as it Comes

The Strikethrough
Not so long ago, sitting at my desk

I painted meaningful verses...
On the white of crisp paper
A beautifully woven embroidery
Of words in black ink....

Yet when I look at it now,
All that meets my eye
Are the words I struck out,
Thoughts I murdered,
And the emotions I denied expression...

Blotched with ink,
Those desperate attempts to bury.....
Shadow all the splendor of my verses,
- An immortal memorial to
All that's dead in me!

Tonight, I'm working on

My first-ever officially paid cakes. 2 cakes for a joint birthday party, one is Transformers and one is Star Wars.

It's for a friend, and I'm doing it at cost because of the opportunity to gain exposure.

Still, I'm super-excited!

Wish me luck!

Photos of DMN's funeral

It's taken way too long for me to post these, but here are lots of photos of the funeral:

My dad helped lower the casket into the grave

We were all given the opportunity to cover her grave; here are some of the photos from that.

All the children were given balloons to release in symbolism of DMN's soul going to Heaven. Green for St. Patrick's Day and pink for her.

DMN, we love you.

Knitting Adventures

In a recent attempt to be more productive with my time, I started knitting... and when I say started, I mean started. I used my good friend youtube.com to teach me how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, bind off, and after some time, what k2togtbl (or p2togtbl) means and how to do it... I am amateur at best, but I have 2 finished projects (rather, 2 of the same finished project) under my belt.

The first one I did wrong. Rather than moving the yarn in front of the needle each time I did a knit stitch, I moved the yarn behind the needle each time. This, it turns out, makes all the difference.

So here's N in my *first* finished project:

Having successfully (if incorrectly) completed my first ever knitted project, I started on another sweater vest, same style, for my 3 yo godson, KC. After researching why N's sweater vest came out so thick and bulky, I came up with this for KC:

So there it is! My second-ever knitted project! Looks a little lumpy in the left photo only because it's sitting funny, by the way.

Next on the agenda is this handsome sweater ... if I can actually figure out knitting on circular knitting needles and/or in the round. I have the tools, I have the ambition, do I have the skills? We'll find out, I guess!
